As for the MMPI-2 content scales, they employ a deductive scale construction method. Other added scales included the VIRN and TRIN, which are inconsistency scales that allow the administrator to determine how inconsistent the test taker was with their responses (Archer, 2014). New validity scales included the F-b scale, which consists of infrequently endorsed items that occur in the latter stages of the test booklet (Archer, 2014). Of the validity scales previously measured, several were carried over from the previous test, but some were developed for the new version as well. Overall, these scores were generally acceptable. Test-retest measures were based off of 193 members of the normative sample who took the test twice within one week. They wanted to obtain a normative sample, preserve sufficient continuity from the first MMPI, which would allow for generalizability about past research on the original MMPI (Archer, 2014). The authors had several goals and ideas they wanted to focus on while developing the MMPI-2. MMPI-2 was designed to primarily focus on the assessment of adults, but also is effective for adolescents (Archer, 2014). Therefore, the MMPI-2 had to be revised carefully in order to maintain the tests supremacy among the top personality tests.
